Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses is the final settlement travellers pass through on the Italian side of the historic Via Francigena before the long climb to the Gran San Bernardo pass and Switzerland beyond. The trail here follows the same route pilgrims and traders have used for over a thousand years, climbing steadily through alpine pasture.
