Riserva Naturale Pietraporciana, Sarteano

Pietraporciana protects a stand of tall, straight beech growing at only 700–850 m — far lower than beech usually manages — a relict of a cooler climate on a cool north slope. A path climbs from the visitor centre through the wood to an open crest with Monte Amiata, Cetona and the whole Val d'Orcia laid out below.
