The Roman-era sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia was among the largest religious complexes anywhere in the ancient world, its huge terraced ramps rising up the hillside now largely built over by the town of Palestrina itself, which grew up on top of and around the ruins. Climbing through the terraces gives a rare sense of the sanctuary's original scale.
