Forte Sperone sits at the highest point of Genoa's 17th-century defensive walls, the biggest of the string of forts along the city's ridge, distinct from the smaller Forte Diamante further along the same walk. The climb up gives a widening view over the rooftops of Genoa down to the harbour and gulf.
