Enna sits almost at the geographic centre of Sicily, earning its nickname as the island's "navel", and the Rocca di Cerere promontory beside the sprawling Castello di Lombardia gives a view that on the clearest days takes in both Etna and, far off, the Madonie range. The site was sacred to Demeter/Ceres in antiquity.
