Crotone's castle, expanded under Emperor Charles V, guards a harbour town founded by Greek colonists over two and a half thousand years ago, not far from the lone surviving column of an ancient temple to Hera at nearby Capo Colonna. The seafront promenade below the walls gives easy, flat walking.
