Colle d'Anchise takes its legend-rich name from Anchises, father of Aeneas, said to have stopped here fleeing Troy — the reality is a quiet, 850-person hill village whose feudal castle survives only in scattered wall fragments at its highest point. The short climb through the old lanes to the castle site gives an open view over the surrounding Molise hills.
