Badolato's old quarter follows an unusual herringbone street plan thought to date from early medieval Saracen influence, its stone houses climbing a steep ridge with an open view down to the Ionian Sea. The lanes are narrow, stepped and largely restored, quieter than the busier Calabrian resort towns nearer the coast.
