Asti's Palio, first documented in 1275, predates the more internationally famous Siena Palio by decades, run through streets lined by the city's substantial Gothic cathedral and surviving medieval towers. The flat centre gives easy, level walking through a city often overlooked in favour of the surrounding Monferrato wine hills.
